How to change engine oil on Honda civic

- 4 quarts of 5W20 oil
- Oil filter (check with local auto stores)
- Oil filter wrench
- 17mm wrench to remove drain plug

Run the engine for a few minutes before starting to prepare oil for change.

Open the hood and remove the engine oil cap, this will make the oil drain faster.

After oil drain out, remove the oil filter by loosening with the oil filter wrench, then removing by hand. There is oil in the filter area which will drip out, be prepared.

Put the new oil filter in and apply some motor oil from the catch pan to the lip of the new filter. Hand tighten the new filter.

Remove the old crush washer from the drain plug and replace with a new one. Reinstall the drain plug with the 17mm wrench, this one you can tighten up because you are crushing the aluminum ring slightly to create a seal.

Now it is time to fill the oil from the top. Using a funnel, fill her up to 4 quarts of 5w20 engine oil. (manual states 3.9 quart which is approx 4 quarts)

Run the engine and check the oil dip stick to make sure it is filled up properly.

In order to reset the oil life monitor:
Press the sel/reset button until the oil life monitor comes up, hold the sel/reset button for 10 seconds, the oil life will start to blink, press and hold the sel/reset button for 5 seconds to reset the monitor.
