Free CARFAX History Report

Anyone purchasing a used car, whether it’s a certified pre owned vehicle or not, should get a free CARFAX history report. With the increasing popularity and necessity of car history reports, service providers such as CARFAX has removed the hassle of obtaining the information. It’s as easy as selecting the vehicle, requesting the report and deciding whether or not to purchase the car.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use the CARFAX free service for finding used cars for sale. The free service contains a database of available used that is populated by the inventory of CARFAX member dealerships. Each vehicle in the database comes with a free CARFAX vehicle history report. In addition to the free CARFAX history report, each vehicle has a CARFAX buyback guarantee. That means if you purchase a car from the database and the vehicle has a title problem, is listed as insurance company salvage or is a lemon, CARFAX will purchase the vehicle back. You can’t get much more hassle free than that.

  2. Step 2

Visit online auto dealers and browse their inventory. Vehicles included in online auto dealers' databases that are listed with “free CARFAX report” links means that the dealership will provide a free report on the vehicle.

  3. Step 3

Go to your local dealer’s website. Many dealers are members of the CARFAX dealers online program. Purchasing a used car from such dealers increases the likelihood of receiving a free car history report. If they don’t readily offer the free report, ask for it. They would prefer to provide a free car history report than lose a potential car sale.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are interested in a vehicle from a non member dealership, there are alternative ways to find free vehicle information. It will take a little more legwork (or computer research), but the additional hassle is worth it in order to find free information to help in your car buying decision.
