1. First, understand what canceling your account means.
   
   This does not simply mean canceling yahoo email, but all services Geocities, flickr, and many other services associated with Yahoo.com . Make sure you are ready to cancel your account with ALL services related to yahoo.

2. Make sure you backup and move any important emails and also any contact information that might be stored in your yahoo account.

3. Cancel and close any premium subscription services you may have with yahoo. If you do not cancel these services before canceling your account, you may still be charged.
