Cut and file each fingernail to your desired length and shape. This is an advantage over having someone else do your manicure because you can tailor your nails to your specific preferences.

Smooth any rough edges. This can be done with a buffing block.
-
5
With an orange stick, remove any debris on the top of and underneath the fingernails. Be gentle on yourself for a painless manicure.

Add some mild soap to a bowl of warm water. Dip the fingers of one hand in to moisten them. Apply cuticle cream to the tip of each nail and rub it in gently. Then do the other hand.

Soak your hands for a few minutes in the warm soapy water. After soaking (how long is your call), gently pat dry. With an orange stick, lightly push your cuticle away from the nail. Using your cuticle scissors, carefully trim any dead skin. Be careful not to cut any live skin.

Massage lotion or cream into your hands. For an extra treat, place a damp hand towel in the microwave for a few seconds then wrap your hands in the towel for a few minutes.
-
9
Let your hands dry completely. Once dry, apply your nail polish.
