How to Find the NETGEAR Network

When you set up a Netgear wireless router in your home or small office, the device automatically creates a wireless network called "NETGEAR." Once the router has been properly configured, you need to find the NETGEAR network on each of your PC or Mac computers using the associated wireless network adapter.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Netgear wireless router
  • PC or Mac computers

    PC Instructions

  1. Step 1

    Check that the wireless adapter on your PC computer is enabled.

  2. Step 2

    Open the "Start" menu and click on the "Control Panel" icon.

  3. Step 3

    Double-click on the "Network Connections" icon.

  4. Step 4

    Double-click on your wireless adapter symbol and then click on the "View Wireless Networks" button.

  5. Step 5

    Choose "NETGEAR" from the list of available networks and click "Connect." If the NETGEAR network is protected by a password, you will be prompted to enter it before connecting.

  6. Mac Instructions

  7. Step 1

    Open "System Preferences" by clicking on the icon in the Dock.

  8. Step 2

    Go to the "Network" control panel underneath the "Internet & Networking" heading.

  9. Step 3

    Click on "Airport" in the list of wireless adapters at the left side of the screen.

  10. Step 4

    Click "Turn Airport On" to enable the adapter and begin scanning for the NETGEAR network.

  11. Step 5

    Choose "NETGEAR" from the "Network Name" drop-down menu to connect to the network. If the NETGEAR network is protected by a password, you will be prompted to enter it before connecting.
