How to Hang a Skateboard on a Wall

Since the late 1950s, skateboarding has been a popular pastime for many teens and adults. From the early adopters such as Bill and Mark Richards and industry revolutionary Larry Stevenson to today's popular skaters such as Tony Hawk and Bam Margera, skateboarding has found its place and displaying those "wicked" boards is both a pride and joy for many enthusiasts.

Things You'll Need

  • Hammer
  • Nails
  • Bolts and nuts
  • Washers (plastic preferred)
  • Scissors
  • Beading wire or fishing line
  • Remove the trucks from the board. Decide how you are going to hang your skateboard: vertically or horizontally. This will determine which holes are used when mounting. For vertical mounts, use the front truck holes. For horizontal mounts, use the front and rear holes on the side that will be closest to the ceiling.

  • Insert one bolt through a washer. From the front of the board, slip the bolt through one of the two selected holes. The purpose of the plastic washer is to protect the graphic. Loosely attach a nut to the back of the bolt. Repeat for the second hole.

  • Cut a length of wire or line, about the length of the board or a bit longer. Make a ring with one end of the line and put it around one of the bolts on the back of the board. Tighten the line around the bolt. Then tie the wire around the bolt one additional time. Repeat for the other bolt. Do not make the line too tight between the bolts. The goal is to have a bit of play in the wire but not so much the wire can be seen when the board is hung.

  • Tighten both nuts to secure the wire. Choose where you want to hang your board and use the hammer to put a nail into the wall at roughly the middle point of where the board will be. Leave the nail sticking out enough to be able to catch the wire but allow for the depth of the nose and tail. For heavier boards hung horizontally, use a slightly longer wire and two nails spaced evenly behind the board.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hang the board out of direct sunlight. Buy darker washers for a dark board. Rubber washers may stick to the board.
  • Check for plumbing or wires behind walls before hanging. Make sure your wire will support the weight of the board.
