How to Print a PCL File

PCL is a file extension which regulates HP printer control language. It will not open properly without an appropriate reader and will appear as a series of symbols and numbers when the file is activated. However, when the correct PCL file reader is used, the file will showcase data properly and can be printed as well.

  • Download PCLReader software (see Resources section). Input your contact information and submit the data. Follow the remaining prompts and the software will begin downloading.

  • Activate the downloaded file by double clicking the desktop icon or by selecting the icon in the Downloads pop-up menu. Perform the installation wizard's steps to complete setup.

  • Launch the PCLReader.

  • Click "File," followed by "Open." This will bring up a search browser. Navigate to the appropriate PCL file you desire to print and select it. The file will now load into the reader.

  • Select "File," then "Print." Click "OK" when the printer setup window appears. The document will now begin to print.
