Remove Scratches from Glass Watch Crystals

Glass watch crystals can become scratched while they are worn on a daily basis. Do not throw out a perfectly good watch just because its crystal is scratched. Use a polishing machine to grind down the surface of the crystal to eliminate the scratches. The polishing machine will buff the surface to make it shine and look like new. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place masking tape around the watch face and band to protect it from the buffing machine.

    • 2

Apply an even layer of polishing compound to the disc of the buffer.

    • 3

Put on safety goggles. Turn on the polishing machine. Hold the watch crystal up against the side of the buffing disc with medium pressure. Move the watch face as you buff it, changing positions and angles to evenly polish all the crystal surface.

    • 4

Examine the watch crystal as you are polishing. If there are deep scratches on the glass, add another layer of polishing compound to the buffer disc to protect the glass from heating up too much and breaking. Then press the crystal slightly harder into the buffing disc to remove the deep scratches.

    • 5

Take off the masking tape after all scratches have been removed. Wipe off any remaining polish from the watch crystal with a soft, clean cloth.
