Speaking the local language is a great way to travel. This article will teach you how to say thank you and you're welcome in Dutch. Even just a little bit of Dutch language can go a long way with the people in Holland

  1. Step 1

    In this how to we will learn how to say both Thank You and You're Welcome in Dutch - the language spoken in most of Holland.

    These two basic phrases are of vital importance in any language, and knowing how to say them in Dutch will be a fantastic way to get closer to the Dutch people when you travel.

  2. Step 2

    First, we will say Thank You. In Dutch Thank You is spelled 'Dank je Wel' or 'Dank U wel'. They both literally translate to 'Thank You Yes'.

    'Dank je Wel' is pronounced 'Dunk Yuh Vel' and it's used to say thank you informally.

    'Dank je Wel' is pronounced 'Dunk Uw Vel' and is formal.

    For example, I would use the formal to say thank you to my grandmother and the informal to say thank you to my parents or friends.

  3. Step 3

    You're Welcome in Dutch is 'Graag Gedaan'

    'Graag Gedaan' is pronounced which soft g's, a bit like you're clearing your throat. So, it's 'Graag Guhdawn'

  4. Step 4

    Great, now you're all set to say thank you and you're welcome in Dutch. Time to go and order some great Dutch food and/or beer!
