How to Use Silicone Polish on a Brand New Car

Car owners want to keep their brand-new car looking showroom-fresh for as long as possible. There is a vast array of products on the market to help you do this. Applying a silicone polish to a brand-new car before you wax can keep that showroom shine going for years. There are just a few simple steps and tips to using a silicone polish, and the results are well worth the effort.

Things You'll Need

• Silicone Car Polish
• Clean Polishing Cloths (Chamois or Similar Fine, Soft Cloths)
• Car Wax

Instructions

1. Make sure your car is clean and completely dry. Now's the time to wash it if you see even traces of road grime.

2. Fold a clean polishing cloth so it is about the size of your hand. Cover one side of the cloth with a layer of silicone polish.

3. Working on one body panel of the car at a time, rub the silicone polish onto the panel using small overlapping circles. You don't have to apply much pressure. Just make sure that every part of the panel is completely covered. Wait five minutes before proceeding to the next step.

4. Rub the polishing compound you applied with another clean, soft cloth in overlapping circles, but this time, you should maintain a steady pressure as you polish. Rub the entire panel until it is evenly shined.

5. Apply a coat of car wax over the polish to protect your brand-new car. Follow the instructions on your car wax to produce the best results.

Tips & Warnings

• Apply your polish in the early morning or evening when the temperature is cooler. Work out of direct sunlight to keep the polish from baking onto the car's paint before you have a chance to rub it to a shine.

• Don't rub the polish into the car paint, or you can begin to create what is known as a "fish eye" effect, and the surface of your car will begin to look uneven and mottled.
