Instructions

1. 

   Ask seller for close up of the label. Main label should have a white box around the world "Polo" followed by "by Ralph Lauren" in a smaller font. Then there is a smaller label right below that should say whether it's classic fit or custom fit. Older shirts might say the name of the shirt model. On the right side of the main label, there is a sideways label that should say the size (M), where it is made (Philippines) , and the material (100% cotton) for example.

   Ask for a picture of the underside of the label. Cheap, fake shirts have poorly sewed labels. The underside label of an authentic shirt have neatly sewed threads. There shouldn't be any excess threads going in different directions.

3. 

   Ask for a picture of the underside of the pony logo on the chest. Again, fake shirts have poorly sewed pony logos. It shouldn't be stitched on, but sewed. The underside should look exactly like the top side except backwards. There should not be any excess threads at all.

4. In general, look at the price. A new Ralph Lauren polo shirt costs $75 regular, $40-$50 on discount. If the seller claims he has a special discount from Ralph Lauren, he is lying. Ralph Lauren does not sell bulk to individuals, only big retail stores like Macy's, Lord & Taylor, etc. Any NEW shirt below $30 should draw suspicion.

5. Look for second hand shirts. Their value go down significantly even if it is gently worn and has no damage, stains, shrinkage. There are several eBay stores that specialize in second hand designer shirts. Most of them are authentic and just want a second home and come at very discounted prices along the $15-$25 range.

• Use smart eBay bidding techniques. Always "watch" an item you're interested in while asking seller for more pictures.

• Bid at the last minute! You don't want your prices inflated by bidding early.
