Hook The Golf Ball

Hitting a hook shot in golf is very useful to the player during the round. A situation will almost always arise where the golfer is required to make the golf ball curve to get it on the green or back into the fairway. Learning how to hook the golf ball is a crucial part of the game, and it will be a great addition to your arsenal of shots. There are a few aspects of the swing that must be adjusted in order to hook the ball. I will address them in the steps below.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Golf Skills
  1. Step 1

Stance: Your stance must be adjusted to learn how to hook the golf ball. The best thing to do is to pull your trail foot back slightly, about an inch, depending on how much hook you want. This will create a closed stance. This will encourage your swing to go inside out, which is essential to hitting a hook.

  2. Step 2

Clubface Angle: The angle of your clubface for this shot needs to be slightly closed, again, depending on how much hook you need. For a big hook you need to close the clubface substantially, and for a less pronounced hook just close the face slightly. You are going to have to play around with this a little on the range to see what amount of closure gives you the hook you want.

  3. Step 3

Release: Releasing the forearms at impact is a crucial part of hitting a hook golf shot. If you want to hit the hook consistently you must roll your forearms over through impact. This will give you the best contact with the golf ball, sending it far, and assuring that it will have hook spin on it.

  4. Step 4

Grip: This is optional. If the above things do not produce a hook for you, you may want to strengthen your grip. This is another thing that will help the clubface close at impact.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice this on the range before taking it on the course.
  • Learn how much hook you get from making different adjustments.
  • Become the hook, notice where it goes and what it does in the air.
