Create LEGO invitations using LEGO mini-fig pictures you or your child draws, or images you download from the Internet. Use appropriate phrases such as, "Come build a great LEGO party with us!" followed by necessary information such as date, time, place, and RSVP information. You can even attach a few small LEGO plates to the card to get the kids excited about the party.

The party decorations can be simple. Use the three basic LEGO colors -- red, yellow and blue -- when purchasing cake plates, napkins, cups and flatware. Solid brightly colored inflated balloons can be weighted down by LEGO model to tie them to, or use DUPLOS with are larger and heavier.

Have your child design some LEGO creations with you to use for table decorations. A simply constructed box can be used to hold plastic forks and spoons for cake and ice cream. As a centerpiece, let your child show off some of his greatest creations and display them in the middle of the table.

Create a LEGO-style cake for your child using a 9 by 13 inch cake pan and large marshmallows set on top. Frost the cake with bright colors, and set clean, new mini-figs on top of the cake as decorations. You can give each child a piece of cake with a mini-fig to keep as his own. To continue the LEGO theme, ice molds are available in minifigure shapes, adding a touch of fun to the drinks you serve.

To set up for the party games, create tables with enough seats to accommodate each guest. Cover the tables with bright solid paper tablecloths and place a large pile of LEGO blocks in the center of the table. Have a contest for who can build the tallest tower in two minutes, or make the most creative car or building or imaginary animal. You can also put children in teams of two or three and have them draw slips of paper that have the name of something they have to build in ten minutes. After each group is finished, to take a picture of the guests standing next to their creations and award prizes to each child at the end of the building session.

Party favors can also reflect the LEGO theme. Purchase inexpensive LEGO sets for each child to take home, or purchase small, unique parts from the LEGO pick a brick website and make a small collection for each child. Put the bricks in clear cellophane bags tied with colorful ribbon.
Another option is to purchase one tub of LEGO bricks and divide it among the guests, or personalize one large Duplo brick for each child using a black paint pen.
Many candy shops and specialty stores also carry candy bricks that are similarly shaped to LEGO blocks that can even be stacked upon each other like the toys.

Tips & Warnings
Be sure to have plenty of unusual LEGO on hand if your guests will be creating more complex models during the games. You don't want unnecessary bickering over "cool" bricks or pieces.
If very small children are attending the party, use DUPLO blocks to avoid risk of choking. If the party is a mixed age group, set up a DUPLO station from the younger set well away from the "big" kids.
