Step 1
~ Sit Down & Assess Your Goals ~
Grab a pencil and paper and write down the goals and dreams you want to accomplish in life. When your goals are laid out before you, you will have a more concrete picture of where you want to be. This is the first step to ending procrastination. -
Step 2
~ Make a Written Plan to Obtain Your Goals ~
After you have written out your goals, make a plan for obtaining those goals. Create short term goals to use as steps to reach the long term goal of ending procrastination. When you have a visual reference laid out in front of you, it will become harder to procrastinate.
When you realize that you are hitting your daily goals, you will get caught up in the headway you are making, and soon procrastination will be a thing of the past. -
Step 3
~ Create a Daily Schedule ~
One of the best ways to avoid procrastination is to always have a scheduled time to do certain things. If you are like me, and you get caught up surfing the web, reading emails, watching TV, or listening to the latest audiobook, you should schedule a time to do all of those things as well as a time to get productive things done.
First, you should knock out the important things, next, knock out the boring chores, then move on to the fun things. -
Step 4
~ Just Do It! ~
When you're lying in bed, and you ae thinking about all that you have to do in the day, you should stop thinking, and roll out of bed and just do it! Thinking about everything that you have to do is the first step in procrastination. If you have followed the previous steps, you will know what you need to do, so there's no use in thinking about it, just get up and do it. You will be proud of yourself when the day is done.

on 8/1/2009 Great advice, Rachelle! I have such a problem with this. I put off unpleasant tasks all the time. I find that creating action points for goals helps me a lot.

on 7/30/2009 Yes, it is important to stop thinking about everything, as step 4 points out! It's hard, but it can be done. You need to choose just one thing, and start. Just start. That's all.
