Verify that the MSN Money network is functioning properly before contacting a password recovery service. If Microsoft is performing maintenance on their servers, you may be unable to log in---which means you don't need a password recovery service at all.

Determine what version of Microsoft Money you are using. Be aware that, due to security advancements, versions after 2001 can be more difficult to crack.

Visit Passware, Inc. (see resources below) to download their Money Key program. To use this software, your computer should be running on Windows 95 or later.

Click the "Buy Now" button to purchase and download the Money Key software. Be sure to enter all of the required information correctly.

Click "Next" to continue. If you chose to purchase the program with a credit card, you will be billed at this time and receive a confirmation message.

Follow the instructions to begin the installation process. You will be asked to choose a location to save the file, so be sure to store the program in a folder you can easily locate.

Select the "Recover File Password" option from the Quick Start menu. Select your Microsoft Money file from the menu and open it.

Choose an option for your password recovery. If you can remember a portion of your password or know details about it, select "Run Wizard." For all other situations, select "Use Predefined Settings."

Select "yes" when you are asked if you want to use online decryption for this file. The software will now begin its recovery service. Based on the complexity of your password and the particular Microsoft Money version you are using, this can take several seconds or a few hours.

Click "continue" after the program completes the recovery process (a message will display informing you of this). Your password will be displayed on the next screen, which you can then use to log in to your Microsoft Money file.

Tips & Warnings
You may want to print or save the results of your recovery process. To do this, select the appropriate option from the top menu. To prevent future losses, consider investing in a password manager program to securely store all passwords.
