How to Export a PST File to Outlook Express

PST files are the format used by Microsoft to save email archives for Outlook and Outlook Express. The PST files exported from Outlook are compatible with Outlook Express. If you decide to export a PST file from your Outlook client, importing it through Outlook Express only takes a few steps.

Instructions

    Export the PST File

  1. Step 1

    Click the "File" option from the main tool bar in Outlook. Select "Import and Export" from the options.

  2. Step 2

    Click the "Export To File" button and click "Next." Select the PST option from the list of file formats and click the "Next" button.

  3. Step 3

    Select a location to save the file. This can be a local directory or a directory on the local network. Enter the name for the saved file and click the "Finish" button. This saves the email to the specified folder.

  4. Import to Outlook Express

  5. Step 1

    Select the "File" option and select "Import and Export" from the options.

  6. Step 2

    Select the "Import from another program or file" option at the start-up window and click the "Next" button.

  7. Step 3

    Select "Personal Folder File (.pst)" from the selection of file formats and click the "Next" button.

  8. Step 4

    Select the location of the file saved from section one. This opens an option window where you can import all or part of the PST file. Select the top folder to import all email, contacts and address book entries.

  9. Step 5

    Press the "OK" button. This imports the PST file for use with Outlook Express.
