Microsoft Outlook Express is an email and newsgroup reader software application. It is distributed with Internet Explorer 6 and earlier versions, but not with Internet Explorer 7 or 8. Outlook Express has a variety of search tools for tasks such as searching the text of an email message, searching for a particular email you have received and searching for people in a corporate directory if you are in a corporate environment. Another useful search tool in Outlook Express allows you to find and subscribe to newsgroups. This is useful because lists of newsgroups can contain thousands of group names. You can use the Outlook Express newsgroup search feature to quickly find a particular newsgroup topic.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Click "Start > All Programs > Microsoft > Outlook Express." This opens Outlook Express.

  2. Step 2

Click the "Tools" link in the Outlook Express menu bar; then click the "Newsgroups" link in the drop-down menu. This opens the Newsgroup Subscriptions window.

  3. Step 3

Type the word for which you want to search in the "Display newsgroups which contain" text box; then press the "OK" button.

  4. Step 4

View the results displayed in the list of newsgroups. If the particular word for which you were searching is not in the list, click to check the box next to "Also search descriptions"; then click the "OK" button. Outlook Express will extend the depth of the search.

  5. Step 5

Click the newsgroup or newsgroups in which are interested; then click the "Subscribe" button to complete the process.
