Overcome social phobia with my self hypnosis technique.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Privacy
  • Comfortable Surroundings
  • A Positive Attitude Regarding Self Hypnosis
  1. Step 1

I once had a bad case of social phobia until I decided to fix the problem myself. I realized that it was all in my head so it stood to reason that if I could reach my subconscious mind that I would be able reprogram my thoughts to overcome this terrible condition. This technique worked for me and it might just work for you. It is imperative that you make yourself as comfortable as possible. You need to be somewhere free of distractions. You can do this lying down or sitting in a chair. There are several steps you must go through to reach your inner mind so be patient with yourself as you take this trip.

  2. Step 2

As you quiet yourself you must close your eyes and take a few deep breaths through your nose exhaling through your mouth. Once relaxed and with your eyes closed try to imagine yourself at the top of a spiral staircase. The stairs have five landings, each landing representing a deeper state of relaxation all the way down to the bottom of the stairs where you will be in touch with your inner mind.
As you walk down the stairs you must tell yourself that each step represents a little more relaxation and each landing represents locks to your mind that you are opening. You must SLOWLY talk yourself all the way down to the bottom, slowly as you feel more and more relaxed with each step until you reach the 5th landing.

  3. Step 3

As you stand on the 5th landing you can look out and see three doors. The first door when opened you will see someone from your past that you admired and trusted. That person is there to talk with about why you feel anxiety in social situations. Listen to what is being said to you. Ask him/her questions that you want answered. The second door when opened will reveal someone from your past who gave you love and made you feel secure. Talk to this person, soak up the love and support he/she is giving you at that moment. At this point you are ready for door number three. This door when opened will reveal a likeness of yourself..primarily the part of you that protects you. Talk to this being and explain to it that his/her protection is hurting you and that you do not need to feel threatened when in a social gathering. Explain to it that its protection is the very thing causing you harm and that your happiness depends on it removing the threat. Remember it is there to protect you and it will be hard for you to convince it that you do not need the protection. It may take several visits down there to talk to it to make it understand.

  4. Step 4

After you are finished with the three doors you can start your climb back up to the top of the stairs. Each stair representing a sense of well being and accomplishment. When you reach the top you may open your eyes and you should feel very relaxed. As you think about social situations that create anxiety you should feel as though you have made some progress in overcoming the phobia. Remember..this may take several times before you start to see a big difference in your behavior. I hope this works as well for you as it did for me.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that your subconscious mind processes everything literally. When at the bottom talking to the being behind door number three be very specific what you want to say to it...His/her is there to protect you from harm. If it feels a threat it will protect you...remove the threat from it and you will be free!
