Substitute for Vegan Baking Recipes
Substitute for Vegan Baking Recipes

Vegan recipes are so easy to make and so delicious. There are substitutions for everything out there that is used in regular recipes. Below I have listed many alternatives.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blue agave nectar
  • your choice of egg substitute
  • your choice of milk substitute
  • canola oil or earth balance
  • chocolate
  1. Step 1

If you are baking a vegan recipe you can just pick these items up at the store, if you are making a lifestyle change to vegan than what I am about to list below are items you should always have ready to go.

  2. Step 2

First and foremost is milk. Cows milk is used in many baking recipes but there are so many alternatives. You can use soy milk (which seems to be the most popular), there is a variety of nut milks such as almond and hazelnut. You can use rice milk or even coconut milk. Coconut milk is very thick so it is great in substituting this in recipes that call for cream.

  3. Step 3

Next is sugar. White sugar is something a strict vegan will not use. Animal products are sometimes used in the processing of white sugar. Bone char is used to whiten the sugar, not all of the time but unless you know how your sugar was processed, it's better to pass. In this case you can use blue agave nectar, maple syrup, molasses, or brown rice syrup.

  4. Step 4

Eggs- replace with one of these many choices.

    1 T Flax seeds ground with 3 T water
1 Tablespoon (chick pea) or soya flour and 1 T water
    1 T arrowroot, 1 T soy flour and 2 T water
    2 T Cornstarch
2 T Potato starch (Instant mash potatoes)
2 Tbsp flour, 1/2 Tbsp shortening, 1/2 tsp baking powder and
    2 tsp water
1/4 cup soft tofu blended with the liquid portion of the recipe
    1/2 large banana, mashed
    2 Heaping t Soy powder + 2 T water
1/4 cup apple sauce (in sweet recipes)

  5. Step 5

    For chocolate:
FInd Pure DARK chocolate chips or regular cocoa powder.
Candy Bars =:Endangered Species chocolate - vegan bars are the Tiger bar, the Ancient Forest bar and the Yellowstone Wolf bar

You can also use raw cocoa powder, carob powder, or carob chips.

  6. Step 6

Instead of butter you can use the buttery spread Earth Balance. You can also use canola oil.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to taste any new recipes, vegan recipes are very different so adjust to your own taste
  • Non-Vegans may not take to your delicious creation so I suggest not telling them, they will enjoy it better.
