How to keep your car radiator in good condition.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Car maintenance is important to insure proper function. However, you don't have to be a mechanic to understand how you can prevent your car from over-heating. A car that over heats can cause damage to the engine cause corrosion of the valves.

  2. Step 2

First, make sure you check your anti-freeze levels even in the summer months. Some people are under the misconception that they only need water in the radiator in the summer. This isn't true; you need anti-freeze in your car all year round.

  3. Step 3

Make sure you check your hoses, sometimes when hoses become loose they allow fluid to escape and this could cause the car to over heat. You should have your hoses changed every 6 or 7,000 miles.

  4. Step 4

Finally, it is a good idea to have your radiator flushed out every 15-20,000 miles or so. Flushing out the radiator gets rid of any dirty fluid or rust that may have accumulated. However, you should not flush your radiator too often. Flushing too often can actually make the car run worse. You may be flushing out minerals needed to keep the radiator functioning properly.
