Change the Internet Explorer 7 Title Bar

Whenever you navigate to a website with the Internet Explorer 7 web browser, a message is displayed on the title bar. Normally the message will indicate the name of the web page you are visiting, but it will always be followed by the phrase "Microsoft Internet Explorer." If you would like to remove that extra message, or change it to say something else, you must make a few changes inside the registry editor.

Instructions

    • 1
      Accessing the Search Box

Bring up the "Start" menu by clicking on the Windows icon at the bottom of the desktop. Click on the icon for the "Search" function.

    • 2
      The Registry Editor's Icon

Type "Regedit" (without quotes) into the Search box and press "Enter". Double-click the icon for the registry editor that will show up in the listing of search results.

    • 3
      Navigating Through the Registry Editor

Click on the plus symbol to the left of the registry folder named "HKEY_CURRENT_USER." Expand out the sub-folders that will appear named "Software," "Microsoft," "Internet Explorer," and then finally "Main."

    • 4

Scroll down through the registry entries in the panel at the right side of the window. Check to see if there is an entry named "Window Title." Right-click anywhere inside the right panel if the entry is not there and then click on "New."

    • 5

Click on "String Panel" and then type "Window Title" and press "Enter". Double-click on the "Window Title" entry. Click on the "Value Data" text box.

    • 6

Type whatever message you want to appear at the top of the Internet Explorer web browser into the "Value Data" text box. Click "OK."

    • 7

Close the registry editor and then open the Internet Explorer 7 web browser to make sure you changed the correct registry entry.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can cause serious problems for your computer if you modify or remove the wrong registry entry. Be careful only to change the "Window Title" entry. You may also want to create backups of any files you need before opening the registry editor just in case you accidentally change the wrong entry and need to reinstall your operating system.
