How to Make a Scary Maze Game

To be able to create a game, your easiest option is to own Flash CS4 Professional and have basic knowledge on how to use the program. Creating a flash game can be fun but slightly difficult for those who are not used to it. Before you start to create your game, you should play other online maze games that include horror elements. Take notes of the kinds of features and instructions that you'll want to include. Be sure not steal from any of the games you play.

    Things You'll Need

    • Flash CD4 Professional
      • 1

Start a new Flash document, making the background color #00CCFF (see References). Click on the "Actions" option and add the code to include a mouse cursor if you want players to be able to use their mouse in the game. Otherwise, players will use the direction keys on their keyboard.

      • 2

Use the text tool to write the name of your game on the main screen. Use your tools to create a "Play" button below the title. Use your "Actions" option to add the code for the "Play" button to begin the game play. This will be the first frame of your game.

      • 3

Insert a new scene by clicking on the "Windows" option at the top of the application and then click on "Other Panels." Click on "Scene 1" and make the timeline of the frame stop in place. Start creating your maze by using the rectangle tool. You can now drag the thick lines presented on the screen in any direction you want to create your maze. Create dead-ends, and make the lines thinner and more complicated toward that end of your maze. Make the background black or a dark color and make the maze itself a light color.

      • 4

Insert a new scene once you've finished your maze. Import scary images into the game that will pop up when a player goes into a dead-end in the maze. Click on the "File" option and click on the option to import to the library. Insert the frame into the maze and place it into the a dead-end of the maze so it will pop up when players reach it.

      • 5

Add sound by inserting a new layer and going to the "Sounds" option. Insert audio as a key frame, and sound will be added. Make sure the sound clip adds a certain eeriness to playing. Create a "Play Again?" button for when the game ends. Add in other preferences like the option to turn off the sound. Once you're finished, test the game by pressing the "Control" and "Enter" keys at the same time.

    Tips & Warnings
