How To Rip Sound From DVD
Ripping sound from a DVD can give you a sound track, or material for creating ringtones or computer sounds. You can receive sound from any DVD. SmartRipper is a free program that rips sound from a DVD into an "AC3" format. ImTOO DVD Audio Ripper ($29 as of July 2009) rips the DVD audio to several formats, including "MP3" or "WAV." Other ripping software is available.

Put the DVD into the DVD drive. Go to the "SmartRipper" unzip folder. Double click on "SmartRipper."

Press the file folder under the "Target" option. Select a folder to save the DVD audio. Select "Save."

Click the "Stream Processing" tab. Press the box next to "Enable." Uncheck everything except "Audio English AC3." Highlight that tab. On the right, select "Demux to Extra File."

Select the "Start" button to begin. A status window will popup. At the bottom is a percentage of completion. This procedure takes about 35 minutes.

Place the DVD in the drive. Open ImTOO DVD Audio Ripper.

Change the "Split" option under "Profile Settings." This is only necessary if you want to burn to audio CD or DVD later. Press the arrow button for a drop down menu. Modify to the specific size of your audio CD or DVD. Change accordingly.

Select "File" and "Open DVD." Click on the DVD drive, which displays with the DVD name. Wait until ImTOO loads the video chapters, approximately 2 minutes.

Alter the "Profile" option at the bottom of the window. Keep as "MP3" output or choose "AAC," "WAV" or "WMA." Select "Browse" to change the output directory or keep as default.

Press the "Round Red Button" to begin the ripping process. The procedure takes roughly 25 minutes.
