This is the throw to know. It doesn't matter if you're playing ultimate, practicing disc golf or tossing the disc at a barbecue, a backhand toss is key.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Grab the disc with your thumb on top, your index finger on the inside edge and your three remaining fingers extended underneath the disc.

  2. Step 2

Hold the disc parallel to the ground.

  3. Step 3

Point your feet perpendicular to your target.

  4. Step 4

Bring your throwing arm across your body until the disc is near your nonthrowing shoulder.

  5. Step 5

Imagine the motion of your arm to be whip-like.

  6. Step 6

Begin the throw with your shoulder leading.

  7. Step 7

    Straighten your elbow.

  8. Step 8

Release the disc with a snap of your wrist when it's directly in front of you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always grip the edge of the disc so the entire disc rests behind your hand.
  • A smooth, fluid throwing motion is important for a nice toss.
  • Keep your shoulders level with each other for a straight throw.
  • For even greater control, try rolling the disc across your chest as you throw.
  • A disc that weighs between 160-180 grams is easier to learn how to throw.

on 11/22/2005 Whenever you throw a flying disc, keep it as parallel to the ground as possible. Otherwise physics will turn it on its side, resulting in a disastrous toss.
