Operating a laundromat can be profitable and rewarding in many other ways. You must be a people person to interact with your customers, but you also need some other skills to operate a laundromat and keep people coming back. When you open your business, you may not realize all the work that goes into running this type of business. Learn how to keep your business thriving and making money for you every month.

Present clean and organized laundromat equipment. You must clean the washers and dryers daily to keep them in good working order. Washers and dryers that are not kept clean can and will spread germs and dirt particles to other people's clothes. For instance, if someone washes clothes with fiberglass on them and the washer is not cleaned out, the particles can transfer to the next load of clothes. Dryers that have pieces in them from an accidental wash and dry could transfer to the next load of clothes.

Clean bathrooms, floors, tables and windows daily. A clean building is inviting and will draw more business. Make sure to empty garbage cans before they overflow.

    • 3

Learn to do your own repair work on the washers and dryers. Repairs can be costly, but most repairs can be done yourself. Unclogging drains, cleaning dryer vents and changing washer motors can be learned from DIY books or by taking an appliance class at your local college. The more repairs you can do yourself the more money you will save.

Remove coins from all of the equipment daily. You don't want to leave more than one day of money in the washers, dryers and vending machines. Keep soap vending machines and snack machines filled so that customers can use them. Use the money from the vending machines to restock the machines when needed.

Plan to work long hours. You should run a laundromat with on-site management. This will prevent problems that can arise when a person does not manage the building. Security cameras work, but they cannot tell kids to stop running around or see if someone needs help with a machine.
