Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Dandruff is the flaking of skin cells from the scalp. Some flaking is actually quite normal, its natural for your skin to shed old cells as it regrows new ones. But it can be excessive. Some predisposing factors such as oiliness of skin, and susceptibility to dandruff can cause it. Dandruff in the severe form may be caused by a fungus, of the Malassezia genus. Take this into account when you purchase shampoo to help.

  2. Step 2

After we know what we are fighting we can now attack it. Anti fungal shampoo is actually very widely available in most super markets. What you will want to look for is Ketoconazole. The -zole class of anitfungals are one of the more effective treatments and will rid your scalp of the fungus causing this condition, a product that contains this is Nizoral.

  3. Step 3

If you still have dandruff you will need to dig a little deeper. Dandruff is a rather complicated condition and could actually be a sign of seborrhoeic dermatitis, or psoriasis. What you will need to focus on now is your diet, how you wash your hair, how dry your scalp is and how stressed you are.

  4. Step 4

Stress can easily be handled by meditation or other stressing releasing activities. Stress can cause dandruff to flair up in susceptible individuals so be careful. Always take note of when you get dandruff the most, if you see a pattern try to relieve the stress.

  5. Step 5

A dandruff treatment and prevention could be as easy as moisturizing your scalp. You may want to treat it with aloe vera left in overnight, tea tree oil, or a 50% concentration of Apple cider vinegar wash can all be very effective home remedies for moisturizing. Also you could buy an over the counter product.

  6. Step 6

Washing your hair in hot water could exacerbate the problem by striping the hair of natural oils. This dries out your hair and scalp. Use a luke warm or cool rinse for you hair instead.

  7. Step 7

A diet high in sugars, fats, starches, etc. can be detrimental to your scalps health. This imbalance could lead to Dandruff. To treat and prevent dandruff just balance your diet with fresh fruits and veggies or a good multi vitamin.
