How to Make a Bandana Top

Use a pretty bandana to create a simple summer girls top.

A bandana isn't just a square piece of cloth to use as a head band or wipe the sweat from your brow. This all-purpose decorative square of cloth can be used to make a cute summer top for a girl or young woman. A few stitches and some pieces of ribbon can turn a bandana into a neat little halter top, perfect for a hot summer day.

Things You'll Need

• Large sized bandana
• Iron
• Needle
• Thread
• Safety pin
• Ribbon or shoelaces

Instructions

1. Fold a large bandana diagonally to make a triangle.

2. Orient the point of the bandana so the tip points upward.

3. Fold the tip down four inches from the top. Press the crease with an iron, and also press the bottom crease.

4. Stitch a straight seam line parallel to the bottom fold 5/8 of an inch up from the crease. This creates a channel in which to put the ribbon through for the tie.

5. Stitch a second seam line at the top, 5/8 inch down from the crease, creating a second channel.

6. Attach a safety pin to one end of the ribbon or shoelace. Pull it through the top channel. Tie it around the neck to measure how long the ties should be, and cut at each end. Tie a small knot in the ends to keep them from sliding out of the top. Attach the safety pin to another length of ribbon or shoelace and thread through the bottom channel. Adjust to size, and cut and knot as for the top.
