How to Block and Unblock Internet Sites with Firefox
The ability to block and unblock internet sites is a simple and effective tool for parental control or control for schools, libraries and employers. When using Firefox, a great way to put these measures in place is by using the FoxFilter add on. This allows the user to block not only specific web sites but also keywords. Below are the steps to install and utilize FoxFilter on your Firefox browser.
Instructions

1
Download the FoxFilter add on from Mozilla (link below in the resource section). Restart your Firefox browser to successfully launch the new program.
-
2
Go to your "Tools" menu to access the program's settings. Click on "FoxFilter Settings" at the bottom of that menu. This will lead you to the area where you can block specific websites or any keywords that you feel are inappropriate.

3
Register with FoxFilter if you would like to secure your settings with a password and prevent FoxFilter from being bypassed, uninstalled or disabled. This costs under $1 per month and may be a good idea depending on your needs.
-
4
Select "Blocked" from the FoxFilter menu options. Enter new keywords, domain names, or specific URLs that you would like to block in the keyword box. You will notice a list of keywords already generated, these can be deleted or you can leave them to be filtered.
-
5
Enter any phrases with blocked keywords that you would like FoxFilter to ignore. For example, if you blocked the keyword "sex" but would like sites with the word "Essex" to be allowed, enter it in the "Ignore Keyword Matches Within These Phrases." You can also add websites that might contain a blocked keyword but are still considered OK by entering them under the "Allowed" menu option.
-
6
Test your new settings. Try entering the address for a site that you blocked. You should then see a FoxFilter page stating "Content Blocked, Sorry, the requested page cannot be viewed due to filter settings."
