Upcycle Advertising Refrigerator Magnets

Whenever you get a new phone book there are invariably advertising magnets attached to the front. Companies are hoping you'll stick them on your fridge and call them when needed. If by chance you don't think you'll need this info. close by you can upcycle the magnets into something beautiful to decorate your fridge instead of throwing them away.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Advertising Magnets
  • Mod Podge
  • 1" Foam Brush
  • Scissors
  • Cardstock
  • Decorative Paper
  1. Step 1

Layer a couple sheets of newspaper over your work surface and gather all your supplies.

  2. Step 2

Cut the magnet to size if needed. I ended up making two magnets out of one business card size ad.

  3. Step 3

Cut a piece of cardstock the same size of the magnet. Apply a thin layer of glue to the magnet and attach the cardstock pressing down firmly. You may need to use a brayer to ensure the layers attache well and lie flat.

  4. Step 4

Allow time to dry and then attach the next layer of your design. I used images from a Mary Engelbreit Page a Day calendar for mine. Use photos, computer printouts, favorite sayings - pretty much anything you find around the house.

  5. Step 5

After applying all the layers and allowing time to dry, apply a coat over the top to seal the layers and have a nice finish.

  6. Step 6

Place on your fridge and enjoy! They also make great gifts and tuck nicely inside a card with little added postage.

Tips & Warnings
  • Allow sufficient time for glue to dry before adding the next layer.
  • If you run out of magnets, ask your neighbors for theirs or you can buy plain magnets at the craft store.
  • Use mod podge sparingly.
  • Wash brush thoroughly as soon as you are done to remove the glue.
