How to Fix a Leak in a Rain Gutter

A minor leak in a rain gutter can end up causing major problems. Even the smallest leak can cause the fascia boards to rot and drip water onto the soffits. As rainwater makes its way toward the exterior foundation wall and starts to accumulate, you may notice water collecting inside your house on the floor, most often in the basement. Things You'll Need

• Waterproof silicone caulking
• Caulking gun
• Ladder
• Paint

Instructions

Fixing the Problem

1. Locate the leak. Climb a ladder and inspect the inside and outside of the gutter in the affected area.

2. Remove any debris from the gutter. Allow the gutter to completely dry.

3. 

   Apply waterproof silicone caulking to the leaking area on the inside and outside of the gutter. Let it dry for 24 hours.

4. Paint the caulk on the outside of your gutter to match your house.

• Cleaning out your gutters several times a year can help prevent further leaks or damage to your gutters.

• Working on a ladder can be dangerous. Be careful.
