1
Create a wooden sign or plaque by placing a sheet of tracing paper on a piece of wood. Place a printout of the design you would like to appear on the wood on top of the tracing paper, and trace the design with a pen. Remove the papers to reveal the traced design on the wood, and burn the design into the wood using a wood burner.

Make your own toy blocks by simply using a paintbrush to paint letters and numbers on wooden blocks. Use glitter pens to adorn the blocks with further decoration.

Craft a wooden puzzle by drilling holes in a triangular piece of wood to create a mind game similar to the ones offered at Cracker Barrel restaurants. Drill one hole at the tip of the triangle, two holes in the next row, three in the next, four in the next and five in the last. Place golf tees in all of the holes except one.

Create a wooden doll for children by decorating a wooden spoon. Create the face by coloring the head of the spoon with markers. Glue yarn to the top of the spoon to create hair, and wrap a napkin or decorative piece of fabric around the stick of the spoon to create a dress.

Make wood carvings in a variety of shapes and designs using a carving knife, chisel and gouge. This wood craft takes much practice, time and patience to master. Begin with a square block of wood and chip away at the wood to sculpt a figurine.

Tips & Warnings
Use a saw to cut pieces of wood instead of purchasing the already-cut shapes. It is much cheaper to buy wood in bulk and cut it as you need it.
Beware of splinters when working with wood.
