There are all kinds of paper candy to make, whether you're using the candy for decoration, window display, props or just having a fun project with the kids. You can make little saltwater-taffy nuggets out of tiny balls of colored tissue paper wrapped in wax paper and twisted at the ends. Hard candies can be simulated the same way, just wrapped in shiny cellophane. At Christmastime, it can be fun to make paper candy canes for decoration.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sheet of paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Red marker
  • Clear tape
  1. Step 1

Cut your piece of white paper into a square.

  2. Step 2

Set your ruler parallel to one of the edges of the paper, about 1/8 inch in from the edge. Set your red marker at the top of your ruler and draw a fat red line down the side of the paper, making sure to fully cover the space between the ruler and the paper edge.

  3. Step 3

Rotate the paper clockwise, and repeat the same process down the next edge. You will now have a square where two sides have a red border.

  4. Step 4

Turn the sheet of paper upside down. Lift up the corner of the paper that has no red lines on it. Begin to roll paper from that corner, up into the red corner diagonally across from it. As you roll tightly, you'll see the red stripe begin to wind up the tube you're rolling.

  5. Step 5

Secure the end corner with clear tape. Wrap one end of the candy cane around the center of a pencil 4 times to make the cane top. Remove the pencil and the paper should now look like a candy cane.
