Step 1
Buy Discount Printer Ink – if your primary printing jobs is to print text only, then discount ink cartridges is the way to go. If you print a lot of photos you may want to shop around for quality color ink cartridges. Beware the quality may not be as good if you were to purchase the printer manufacture’s ink cartridges.
-
Step 2
Print Text in Fast Draft Mode – Whenever you are printing material that does not require high quality printing, print in fast draft mode. This can be accomplished on most text programs by going into the ‘Print” menu and selecting ‘Printer Properties’ and then selecting ‘Fast Draft’. The print will be lighter but it can still be easily read.
-
Step 3
You can save money on paper by printing two pages on one sheet. Most printers support placing two pages of text onto a single sheet. Each page will be reduced in size and rotated 90 degrees. This will give you a book layout with the two pages side-by-side on one sheet.
-
Step 4
Print to a PDF File – This is the best way to save paper when you really don’t need to print something on paper. PDF files can also be easily transferred to a smartphone or blackberry device. PDF files are also easier to read on a desktop or laptop.
-
Step 5
Use a Laser Printer – If all your printing involves text only, you would be better off purchasing an inexpensive laser printer. You will get a lot more printing for your dollar. If you occasionally need to print photos, you may want to use an on-line photo service.
