Did you know that you can replace your Social Security card for free if it is lost or stolen? You need to know your social security number in order to get a new social security card.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Obtain an application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5)and fill it out completely. I have included a link to download the application in the resource section. Download and Print the form standard paper. Make sure to fill the form out in only blue or black ink.

  2. Step 2

    Gather the required documents. You will need the following documents to get a replacement social security card.
    Proof of Identity
    Proof of US Citizenship
    or Proof of your current, lawful, work-authorized status if you are not a U.S. citizen.

  3. Step 3

    You can either mail or take your application and original documents to your local Social Security office to process them. I have provided a link in the resource section to help you locate your nearest social security office.

Tips & Warnings
  • You are limited to three new social security cards in a year and ten in a lifetime.
