Things You'll Need:
- A Plan
- Effort
- Knowledge
-
Step 1
Raise Incline - To burn the most calories and blast the most fat using the elliptical trainer, raise the incline as high as you can tolerate. The higher the incline, the greater the physical exertion needed to power the elliptical, which translates into a tougher workout and more calories burned!
-
Step 2
Raise Intensity Level - To increase calorie burning and fat loss, set the elliptical machine intensity level high enough to make you work. Don't waste time waltzing through a slow, easy workout; amp up the intensity and get that heart rate pumping. The more you sweat, the more calories you burn and the greater the metabolic boost!
-
Step 3
Do Intervals - To burn more calories and fat in a shorter period of time, incorporate interval training into your next elliptical workout. Interval training mixes short, fast bursts of activity combined with periods of slower activity. Go fast and hard for 30-45 seconds, back off and rest for 30-45 seconds, and repeat. Do this 5-10 times over the course of your workout, and you will greatly increase your calorie burning and fat loss.
-
Step 4
Don't Grab Bars/Rails - Grabbing onto the elliptical machine handrails and/or bars decreases the intensity of the exercise, which in turn reduces the calorie burn. To burn the most calories during your next elliptical machine workout, stand up strait, keep your hands of the rails, and let your legs shoulder all of your body weight. Doing this will drastically increase calorie burning.
-
Step 5
Use Manual Control - Using the manual control on the elliptical machine gives you much greater control and leeway over your elliptical workout, which allows you to burn the most calories. The manual control allows you to instantly adjust your intensity levels and workout profile, and is the best elliptical machine setting to ensure maximum workout intensities and calorie burning.
