Rubber stamping is a popular way to embellish paper crafts and scrapbooking pages. Stamps are attractive and available in every design imaginable. Purchasing stamps gets expensive, so assembling a rubber stamp kit to meet most of your needs will save you from running out to purchase a new one for each project at the full retail price. You also will have everything organized so you do not run out of ink in the middle of a project.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stamps
  • Acrylic blocks
  • Mounting glue
  • Inks
  • Pads
  • Brushes
  • Rubber block
  • Carving tool
  • Box
  1. Step 1

Decide what you will need the stamps for. If you make art cards, you may need a variety of acid-free inks and the ability to make your own stamps. A general-use kit will contain stamps with the alphabet and a variety of other designs.

  2. Step 2

Purchase a set of mounted stamps in the designs you know you will use most. Floral, alphabet or bordering sets offer a variety of uses.

  3. Step 3

Buy unbacked stamp sheets in other designs to save money. These sheets can be cut apart and mounted as you need them. Purchase acrylic blocks to mount them on and temporary mounting glue for your kit so you have all the supplies you need when it comes time to use them.

  4. Step 4

Add a variety of inks and pads. Choose inks that you know you will use. Many varieties are available, including metallic and glitter, but do not purchase them if you know you will not use them. Inks are available in traditional pad form, but purchase a stamp brush and liquid inks for your kit if you plan to do more complex stamping.

  5. Step 5

Include a rubber stamp block and a carving tool to make your own stamps quickly and easily. This will save you a trip to the store when you are in the middle of the project and need a simple stamp that is not in your kit.

  6. Step 6

Place your stamping supplies into a single container so you do not have to search for them. Fishing tackle boxes or sewing notion boxes are inexpensive and come with trays and compartments for organizing your supplies. Plastic boxes are better than cardboard, because they will contain any ink spills that may occur.

Tips & Warnings
  • Build your stamping kit slowly so you do not purchase what you do not need.
  • Securely close ink pads and bottles so they do not dry out when stored.
