How to delete a Google or Gmail account

Google offers many products that make navigating the web easier. Google also offers other products like Gmail that help you connect and communicate to your contacts. These accounts are free of charge and you only need a free account with them to access these products.

If you decide that you would like to cancel your account they make it painless to delete it permanently. This tutorial will show you how to close your Google account.

1. Deleting your Google account is easy but before you start decide if you want to delete your entire account or specific services.
   
   Go to Google's homepage and log into the Google account that you want to cancel. Once you are back on the homepage navigate to the Google Account Settings.
   
   To get to the account settings, click on the option labeled "My Account". This should be on the top right corner of your screen of the homepage which is positioned next to your email address.

2. Follow the link titled "Edit" next to My products in the middle of the page.

3. If you want to delete your entire account:
   Click the option close account and delete all services and info associated with it.
   
   If you want to delete specific services like Gmail:
   Click the option next to the service that you would like cancel.

Tips & Warnings

• Google warns that you should be sure you won't want your username in the future because it will not reuse the name of the account.
• You cannot reactivate your account once it has been deleted
