How to Cancel a Google Account

Google is more than just a popular search engine. The company provides users with advertising solutions, email accounts and document-management software. Your Google account is a hub where you can manage different Google services. When opting for a different service or migrating to a new Google account, you may want to cancel an old Google account. Canceling your account affects various Google services in different ways. Google's website provides information on what happens after account cancellation, letting you make an informed decision. If you want to go through with cancellation, the process takes just a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Web browser and visit google.com/accounts.

    • 2

Click the "Edit" link, found next to the "My Products" list. A new page loads, listing all of the services associated with your Google account. If you decide you'd rather delete an individual service rather than canceling the whole account, you can click on it from this menu to delete it.

    • 3

Click "Close account and delete all services and info associated with it." This option is housed at the bottom of the page, beneath the exhaustive listing of your account services. A new page opens.

    • 4

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the check box labeled "Yes, I want to delete my account."

    • 5

Click the other check box labeled "Yes, I acknowledge that I am still responsible for any charges incurred due to any pending financial transactions."

    • 6

Enter your password. Even though you provided this information while logging in, Google needs it again to confirm account cancellation.

    • 7

Click the "Delete Google Account" button at the bottom of the page. Your account is now canceled and you are redirected to the main Google screen.
