How to Make a Camo Pattern
Camouflage is used in a variety of activities that take place outdoors, from military to recreational uses such as hunting and paintball. In any of these instances, the purpose of the camouflage is the same. Camo helps to conceal the human body, and sometimes vehicles such as boats and trucks, by making it difficult to discern the shape of the object. If you would like to design your own camo pattern that can be used on almost anything from clothing to vehicles, you can do so in a graphics program like Photoshop.

Open a new white canvas in Photoshop or another graphics program by going to the "File" menu and choosing "New." You can make the canvas any size that you want. Making it 8½ inches by 11 inches will allow you to print the pattern on standard-sized card stock.

Double-click on the color that is active on the toolbar to open the color palette. Select black as the active color and close the window.

Create clouds by going to the "Filter" menu and selecting "Clouds" from the "Render" submenu. This will create a screen of black and gray clouds on the white canvas.

Change these clouds to the traditional camo pattern. To do this, go back to the "Filter" menu and choose "Cutout" from the "Artistic" submenu. Set the number of levels to 3. This will give your camo pattern three colors. Edge simplicity can be set to 0 and edge fidelity to 1. When you click "OK," the image on your palette will have changed to the camo look you are used to. Press Ctrl+Shift+L to make the color differences more distinct. The colors of the individual patterns on the screen will change to white and black.

Use the "Magic Wand" tool to select the white patterns on the screen. Hold down the "Shift" key as you click on each individual pattern in order to select them all simultaneously. While the patterns are selected, use the "Paint Bucket" tool to fill each of the white shapes with a color of your choice other than black, such as red. Once the shapes are filled, and with the shapes still highlighted, press Ctrl+J to create a new layer. You will now have a layer that only contains the originally white patterns in your image.

Highlight all of the black shapes with the "Magic Wand" as you did with the original white shapes. Create a new layer and you will end up with a layer with only the black patterns. You do not need to change the color of the black shapes.

Print these layers out separately. To print each layer separately, hide all of the layers except for the layer that you want to print. Click on the eye symbol next to each layer you want to hide. The eye will disappear from the box and the layer will no longer be visible on the canvas. If you deselect all of the layers except for the layer with the red shapes, you will be able to print just the objects on this layer. Then do the same with the black layer. Cut the shapes out of each of these patterns.The patterns can now be used to create camo.
