How to Make a Tea Cup Bird Feeder

Save

Bird feeders can transform a garden or backyard into a lively and bustling outdoor space. Rather than hanging a standard store-bought feeder, create a teacup bird feeder that will serve as an elegant and stylish outdoor statement piece. It would also make an imaginative gift for your bird-watching or gardening friends.

Remove the pinch clip pins from the pinch bail pendants using the wire cutters. Use a small dab of glue on the inside of the bail's pinch clip and slide each one onto the edge of the saucer in an evenly-spaced triangle. Be sure to follow the glue's preparation and drying directions before proceeding.

Glue the teacup to the center of the saucer by placing a thin line of glue around the bottom of the teacup. Have a wet paper towel or napkin ready to clean any excess glue. Rest a heavy book on top of the cup for weight while the glue dries. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Attach one end of each chain to the bails on the saucer. You might need to use the pliers to open the chain ends slightly wide enough to insert the bails. Close the chain ends once they are securely placed on the bails.

Slide all three chain ends onto the S-hook. Secure the free end of the S-hook to a sturdy tree branch or hanging post.

Add birdseed to the teacup and enjoy the company of your aviary friends.

  • Use a toothpick to smear the glue onto the inside of the bail's clip.
  • Do not use more glue than necessary. The glue will expand as it dries.
  • Use caution while using wire cutters.
  • Wear eye protection when cutting pinch clip pins.
