How to Open an EPS File Extension

An EPS (Encapsulated Postscript File) contains text and images drawn in vector graphics. Rather than storing an image as a group of colored pixels, the file contains text instructions for creating lines, points, areas and colors. Thus, the image can easily be enlarged or reduced without any loss of quality.

Instructions

1. Start with a vector graphics program such as Adobe Illustrator to open an EPS file. Such programs can also edit the file.

2. Use a standard graphics program that can handle EPS files, such as Adobe Photoshop. Such programs convert the image into pixels in a process called "rasterizing," which loses any vector information.

3. Read the vector text using a word processing program such as Microsoft Word. Editing the text can change the vector information, but this requires technical knowledge of vector commands.
