How to Change Windows XP Startup
Windows XP is a widely popular operating system. Many even suggest, according to a Tech World article by John E. Dunn, that XP is more stable than the newer Vista installment of Windows. However, despite its track record as a virtually glitch-free operating system, XP is not without some detractors. A major downside to Windows XP is that many of the stock programs installed onto the operating system are designed to start immediately after your computer boots up, causing slower startup for the sake of programs you may not even use. Luckily, this is one XP shortcoming that you don't have to live with; with the right knowhow, you can change Windows XP startup.

1
Right-click on the Windows "Start Menu" button. A list of clickable options will appear.
-
2
Select "Explore" from the list of options available. According to Microsoft, a new window will open, displaying your "Start Menu" files and folders.
-
-
3
Double-click on the "Programs" folder on the left-hand side of the screen. This will expand the folder, giving you more options to click on.
-
4
Double-click on "Startup." This will open your Startup folder; inside this folder are shortcuts to all the programs designated as "startup" programs. If you want to remove a program from your startup list, simply select the program's icon and press the "delete" key; the program itself will still be on your computer, but it will no longer start when Windows XP boots up. Additionally, you can add new startup items by copying and pasting shortcut icons into the Startup folder.
