How to Join MPEG Files

Joining MPEG files serves many applications, such as combining family films into one file or recombining two previously split movies that you burned to two separate discs. Joining MPEG files helps you avoid issues such as the need to keep track of several files or having to switch files every few minutes to continue watching a video. The process for joining an MPEG file is easy with the proper software.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install Easy Video Joiner. (See Resources.)

    • 2

Launch Easy Video Joiner from its installed location by double-clicking its icon.

    • 3

Click the "Add" button in the main program window once the program has loaded. This will produce a standard Windows Explorer dialog box.

    • 4

Use the Dialog box to navigate to the files you wish to combine into one MPEG file, and double left-click them to add them. This will add them to a list in the center main frame of the program window. You may add any number of MPEG clips to a movie.

    • 5

Drag the file names up or down the clip order list, using your mouse, to place them in the order in which you would prefer your files to be played back.

    • 6

Click the "Join" button to begin the MPEG joining process. This process may take anywhere from a few moments to a few hours, depending on the speed of your hard drive(s), and the length and number of the movie files you are combining.

    • 7

You can now store your joined MPEG file and use it as needed.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are having problems with files joining correctly, it is sometimes useful to join several files into two or more bigger MPEG movies than into one MPEG movie file.
