How to Submit Ideas to SNL
If you've always thought your jokes or scripts would make great shorts on "Saturday Night Live" but didn't know how to get your material in the hands of "SNL," this information is just for you. Submitting your own jokes, material or scripts to "SNL" can be done, but there are no guarantees it will be used or that you will receive any credit.

Create a cover letter to be mailed with your "SNL" ideas. Be brief but thorough. Include your name, address, telephone number, email and a brief bit of information about the pieces you are submitting. Type the cover letter in a word processing program to ensure readability.

Print a copy of your jokes, scripts, skits or other material. Staple or paper clip all pages together.

Place the cover letter on top of submission materials and place in an envelope.

Mail the contents with proper postage to:

Tips & Warnings
If your script, joke, skit or other material is used on "SNL," do not expect any credit or acknowledgment. Material sent to "SNL" becomes their property. By submitting it you waive all rights to ownership.

It would be nice if SNL accepted contributed scripts for review over the internet. Imagine all the sketch ideas that would come pouring in. If I have one that is accepted, I hope they would credit my comedy writing at least by name.

What about solicited scripts? I sent in a sketch for a contest SNL did and they used my idea on the show but never emailed me back or let me know it would run live. No biggie, it turned out to be one the funniest sketches ever and they pulled it off perfectly.

I don't care if I get recognized my life is a snl skit:) lets just think about ringtones you can go on & 0n &on.

The info here about submitting ideas to SNL is incorrect. The following is from the SNL site: "Can I submit my sketch ideas to SNL? Nope. NBC and Saturday Night Live will not accept any unsolicited scripts, ideas, drafts or sketches. If you do send your ideas or material, you waive any claims to your submission. Were serious."
