How to Fix a Tie

Windsor knot

A nicely tied tie can be a terrific accessory. The Windsor style is a common way to tie a knot in a tie. When this knot is tied correctly it is thick, wide and triangular. The Windsor knot is well suited for spread collar shirts and is a good choice for job interviews and business presentations. With a little bit of practice while standing in front of a mirror you will soon master the art of tying a tie.

How to Fix a Tie

1. 

   Drape the tie around your shirt collar. Place the wide end of the tie on the right side. The narrow part of the tie should hang down approximately 12 inches.

2. 

   Cross the wide end over the top of the narrow end.

3. 

   Pinch the tie at the intersection. Pull the wide end up through the space between the collar and the tie.

4. 

   Bring the wide end back down in front of your chest. The wide end should now be on the right side.

5. 

   Pull the wide end underneath the narrow end, going right to left. Loop the tie up over the intersection and down between the neck and the tie again. The wrong side of the wide end is facing out.

6. 

   Bring the wide end across the front of the tie going from right to left.

7. 

   Pull the wide end up through the loop between the tie and the neck.

8. 

   Bring the wide end down through the knot in front.

9. 

   Tighten the knot slowly as you draw it up to the collar.
