Audio file formats are numerous, and can be difficult to convert back and forth. MP3 is the most popular format because of its high quality to file size ratio. AC3 is a Dolby Audio compression technology used to create realistic soundtracks for movies. AC3 is regularly used to denote any audio recording used for DVD encoding.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Download Wondershare Audio Converter and install it.

  2. Step 2

Open the program and drag and drop the MP3 files you want to convert from your music library. On most computers, MP3 files are stored in a folder called "My Music."

  3. Step 3

Select AC3 as the format, and set your destination path so you know where the converted files will be saved.

  4. Step 4

Click "Start" and wait for your MP3 files to convert to AC3. Close the program when finished.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have trouble getting your MP3s converted, you might try converting them to .WAV files, and then using Aften, a free converter that converts .WAV to AC3.
