Typically, a computer name is useful in networking and allows PCs on the home network to read one another. In setting up a home network, you can change your computer name to something easily recognizable to other users. In business, larger corporations use a computer name such as "Invoice Department." This assists in locating certain computers through the network setup. You can change the name to anything you wish in Vista.
