An ID3 tag is a set of information about the contents of an MP3 file that is encoded in the MP3 file itself. For example, an ID3 tag for an MP3 containing music might include the title of the song, the name of the artist performing the song, the name of the album on which the song is included and the song's track number on the album. The most current version of the ID3 tag is Version 2. If you want to edit the information in an ID3 tag, you can use an ID3 tag editor such as TagScanner to edit or even completely remove ID3 V2 tag contents from an MP3 file in Windows XP.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Download and install TagScanner on your computer (see Resources for the link).

  2. Step 2

Click the "Start" button, then click the "All Programs" link. Click the "TagScanner" folder icon in the list of programs, then click the "TagScanner" application icon in the submenu. This opens the TagScanner application window.

  3. Step 3

Click the "TAG Editor" tab in the TagScanner application window. This sets the window to the Tag Editor interface.

  4. Step 4

Click the "Select Folder" icon in the management toolbar at the bottom of the TagScanner application window. This opens the Select Folder With Music Files dialog box.

  5. Step 5

Browse to and select the MP3 you want to edit in the dialog box, then click the "OK" button. This closes the dialog box and adds the MP3 you have selected to the list of files in the main pane of the TagScanner application window.

  6. Step 6

Click the "Remove" button in the control toolbar at the bottom of the TagScanner application window. This removes the ID3 V2 tag from the MP3 and completes the process.
