How to Use Disney Rewards

Save

DIsney Rewards is a credit card reward program. Consumers get back a small amount on their purchases (generally 1 percent) that they can then redeem for Disney products or spend inside the Disney theme parks. Rewards are given to the consumer in the form of a rewards card that works like a gift card or as a rewards check that is redeemable only from certain merchants for certain merchandise.

Things You'll Need

  • Disney Rewards Visa
  • Disney Rewards Card

Getting & Using Disney Rewards

Apply for a Disney Rewards Visa if you don't already have one. Most people who apply online receive a decision within minutes. Most purchases result in a 1 percent "reward." These rewards, which are called Disney Dream Reward Dollars, can be redeemed only after you have earned 20 of them, which means spending $2,000 at the normal accumulation rate.

Redeem your rewards. Once you've reached the minimum, you can go online or call 1-800-436-7999 and request either a Disney Rewards Card loaded with your reward dollars or Disney checks good for the purchase of movie tickets, DVDs, toys, music, books, and games from select in-store retailers.

Reload your Disney Rewards Card. As you continue to use your Disney Visa, you'll continue to earn more Disney Dream Reward Dollars. Before you can use those new reward dollars, however, you'll need to transfer them onto your Disney Rewards Card. You can make these transfers by phone (1-800-436-7999) or by logging into your online account and choosing "Manage My Account." As in step 2, you can also choose to get Disney checks instead.

Use your Disney Rewards Card during your visits to Walt Disney World and Disneyland. You can use the Disney Dream Reward Dollars on the card at most retail locations inside the theme parks and at Disney-owned hotels.

If you opt for the Disney checks, visit the Disney Rewards website for the locations where you can use them. Many national retail stores and movie theater chains accept these checks, but the list can change over time, so always check for a current listing of merchants before you leave home.

Tips & Warnings

  • Disney Rewards may not be the most economical way to earn credit card rewards. Be sure to look past the Disney name and compare it to your other options. Your Disney Visa may also entitle you to other benefits in the Disney parks, such as exclusive character greetings.
  • Disney Rewards expire. Check your account, Disney Rewards Card, or Disney checks for the specific date.
