How to Troubleshoot Flash Player Install

Flash is a video technology that allows for real-time video streaming over the Internet. Many websites have Flash videos embedded within them. However, you must have a Flash Player plugin installed into your web browser in order to view these videos. Sometimes, the installation cannot be completed successfully; in such a case, you can follow a few key troubleshooting steps that may solve the problem.

        Uninstall previous versions of Flash Player. You may be experiencing problems with your current Flash Player installation if you have a previous version installed. To uninstall previous versions, run the Flash Player uninstaller. Click "Start>Flash Player>Uninstall."

        Check Internet Explorer's Active X settings. To do this, click "Tools>Internet options>Security>Custom Level." Once you have made it to this menu, choose "medium" or "low."

        Determine if you have permission issues. Symptoms of permission issues include a "Failed to install" message and a message indicating that you do not have the correct version of Flash Player.
